Face Your Money Fears in Midlife and Beyond
Fears around money have a sneaky way of keeping you stuck. In midlife and beyond, the stakes feel higher. Makes sense, right? You are closer to retirement, which may stir up thoughts of being behind in your savings or worries about losing your job.
But here’s the truth: fear doesn’t have to hold you back. When you meet your money fears with gentle observation and curiosity, you create space for freedom and possibility. You can tap into your power to change your money story.
I’ve created a challenge to help you look closely at your money fears and begin to move beyond them in a healthy way. Download the Face Your Money Fears Challenge worksheet and take the four steps below:
Step 1: Name the Fear
Set aside self-judgment as you approach this step, my friend. Allow yourself space to notice your money fears and the layers underneath the surface. Are you afraid of not saving enough? Losing what you’ve built? Making a financial mistake? Naming it is the first step to taming it.
Step 2: Get Curious About It
Every fear has a story behind it. Maintain your judgment-free zone as you use curiosity to uncover the fear’s narrative, explore the possibilities on the other side of it, and notice the lessons within. This step helps you open the door to your desired breakthrough.
Step 3: Gather the Facts
Get clear on the numbers of your accounts, without judgment, shame, or guilt, to loosen the grip of your money fears. Review your income, expenses, savings, and debts. Write them down to see the full picture. Once you do, the unknowns lose power.
Step 4: List and Take Tiny Steps
The next step is to take action. Progress through fear feels less overwhelming when you break actions down into tiny steps. List your tiny next steps and feel your mindset shift as you move forward, gain momentum, and build confidence.
Moving Forward
As you face your money fears, avoid getting hung up on having it all figured out. Focus on the next best small step and celebrate your courage and growth. The further you go, you’ll notice old fears have dissipated. When new fears reveal themselves, start over with the four steps!
This month, let courage lead the way. Download the Face Your Money Fears Challenge worksheet and get started on the steps. October is your month to face your money fears and step into a more confident financial future.
